An Introduction to ChitterChatter: AI Speaking Practice for Language Instructors

Description: This demonstration and information session for UW–Madison language educators will introduce ChitterChatter, an AI-powered tool for language instructors to create curriculum-aligned speaking practice for students in their courses. The platform, currently used by instructors and students at institutions including Cornell, MIT, and the University of Chicago, currently supports 32 languages; additional languages may be added on request.
UW–Madison instructors who are interested in piloting ChitterChatter in their courses will be offered a free license for the Spring 2027 semester. (There would be a charge for using it after that time.) The tool will need to undergo an internal security and digital accessibility review first; instructors interested in piloting the tool should contact Dianna Murphy, who can coordinate the review.
About the presenter: Jadon Geathers is the Co-founder and CEO of ChitterChatter, an AI platform that gives language students authentic, low-stakes speaking practice and gives instructors visibility into how their students are progressing. He is also an Information Science PhD student at Cornell University, where he is a member of the Future of Learning Lab (advised by Professor René Kizilcec) and a Graduate School Dean’s Scholar supported by the Bowers CIS Dean’s Excellence and Hopper-Dean Fellowship. He previously earned an MS in Computer Science and a BS in Mathematics from Stanford University. His research on educational technology has been published at venues including Learning @ Scale, AIED, and EDM.
