About the workshop
Using a textbook can be compatible with proficiency-based instruction, provided the right adjustments are made. In this workshop, we will discuss fundamental principles of proficiency-based instruction and instructional planning around communicative goals and will explore different assessment and evaluation options. Then, we will turn our attention to key aspects of proficiency-based lessons for each of the three communication modes: interpretive, presentational, and interpersonal. The presenter will share ideas to support comprehension and make the most out of reading and listening activities, as well as tips for scaffolding output, with a special focus on transforming traditional textbook activities typically found in textbooks into meaningful and purposeful tasks that foster communicative ability.
