Description:
In this session, Claire Frances and Azul Trejo-Zetina will give an overview of their project Iowa Intersections, which is a multilingual oral history and digital storytelling initiative that aims to amplify the voices of local recent immigrants. This collaboration between the Division of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, UNESCO City of Literature Iowa City, and the Neighborhood Centers of Johnson County consists of collecting, archiving, and disseminating the stories and developing academic study guides.
About the discussants:
Claire Frances became the Director of the Center for Language and Culture Learning (CLCL) in 2019. In the past three years, she has updated the space to be flexible, adaptive, and student-centered; created a virtual reality (VR) learning space, and a Computer Assisted Language Lab. She also founded a peer tutoring program in the twelve languages taught in the Division of World Languages, and launched a multilingual community based oral history project and is working on developing a Humanities Lab on language justice and a Global Kitchen for food and culture coursework. She oversees a team of three instructional technologists, and about 20 students who have all contributed to making the CLCL an amazing and welcoming hub. Follow us on Instagram!
