Teaching Professional Communication in Language Courses

In this informal panel discussion, UW-Madison language instructors who have successfully taught courses in professional communication will share their experiences with those courses, and discuss ways that other instructors might incorporate strategies for developing students' professional communication skills in new or existing courses in their language. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion. 
Ritt Deitz, Director, Professional French Masters Program, Department of French and Italian, will discuss French 313: Professional Culture and Communication in the Francophone World and French 314: Contemporary Issues in Government, Organizations, and Enterprise, two advanced French courses that focus on the culture and sociology of a wide array of professional environments in the Francophone world.
Takako Nakakubo, Department of Asian Languages and Cultures, will discuss East Asian 377: Business Japanese Communication, which aims to develop students’ business-specific communication skills as well as their understanding of cultural and geographic factors that influence business in Japan.
