How can we encourage and engage our students in this time of remote learning? How do we promote meaningful communication in the Zoom classroom and foster a sense of community? How can we extend this beyond the classroom to motivate our students through co-curricular opportunities and activities? This presentation will explore the ways instructors can create an immersive and exciting language learning experience particularly during a time of online instruction.  

About the discussant:

Yasmine Ramadan is an Assistant Professor of Arabic and the Director of the Arabic Program at the University of Iowa. Yasmine holds a PhD. from the Department of Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African Studies at Columbia University, and an M.A. in English and Comparative Literature from the American University in Cairo.  Her research and teaching interests include modern Arabic literature, the Arabic language, Middle Eastern cultural production, and comparative literature. She teaches all levels of Arabic language as well classes on the literature and cultural production of the Middle East and North Africa.
