Language Connections 2005 is a program of the UW-Madison Language Institute, made possible in part in 2005 by the support of the Wisconsin Association For Language Teachers (WAFLT).
Materials are based on two popular World Languages Day sessions: African Storytelling: The Music of Words, by Professor Harold Scheub, UW-Madison Department of African Languages and Literature, and Scandinavia for All Your Senses, by Professors Susan Brantly and Nete Schmidt, UW-Madison Department of Scandinavian Studies.
Three teachers from Columbus High School, Shardon Bradish (Spanish), Rebecca Brem (Social Studies, World History), and Alison Rowe (English), participated in the 2005 program. They incorporated materials and concepts from the 2005 African Storytelling session into a unit on myths in Sophomore English, a unit on Mexican legends in Spanish 3, and an activity on stereotypes in World History. Materials from these classes are also available for download below.
The program was coordinated in 2005 by Language Institute Associate Director Dianna Murphy. |
