Award-winning Chinese filmmaker Li Shaohong's powerful film Stolen Life captivated hundreds of Wisconsin high school students at World Cinema Day 2006.

During the brief welcome ceremony James Madison High School students Allison Blumenfeld and Linda Thao recited in Chinese two famous poems from the Tang Dynasty. Nicole Huang, professor in the department of East Asian languages and literature, introduced Stolen Life, a powerful story of a young woman's journey to adulthood.

The high school students maintained a lively and engaging 35-minute post-film discussion.

The Wisconsin Film Festival also screened Stolen Life for general audiences on Saturday, April 1.
