Transdisciplinary SLA in a Multilingual World

Some Autobiographical Reflections
Date:
Fri, 04/15/2016 - 2:00pm to 3:00pm
Location:
Varsity Hall I, Union South
Speaker and Affiliation:
Elaine Tarone, Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition, University of Minnesota
In this talk, I will trace my own autobiographical development as an SLA researcher interested in social context, and how I moved over time from a focus on ESL/EFL to a broader focus at CARLA on ‘foreign’ language acquisition and multilingualism, and most recently, to a collaborative effort to develop an alternative conceptual framework for our field, one
that we hope will shed light on and better address the multilingual realities in the 21st century.
