Over 100 Wisconsin high school students and teachers gathered on Saturday, February 23 for a day of conversation around international education.

The Language Institute coordinated the offering of demonstration language lessons in 10 languages, giving participating students a taste of a new language and the chance to speak it (and even sing it!).

Participating instructors included:

  • Samuel Darkwa (Akan-Twi), Department of African Languages & Literature

  • Kannikar Elbow (Thai), Department of Languages & Cultures of Asia

  • Peggy Hager (Norwegian), Department of Scandinavian Studies

  • Nancy Heingartner (Russian), Center for Russia, East Europe and Central Asia

  • Andrew Irving (French), Department of French & Italian

  • Bongani Mbatha (Zulu), Department of African Languages & Literature

  • Takako Nakakubo (Japanese), Department of East Asian Languages & Literature

  • Christopher Tabisz (German), Department of German

  • Anne Waliaula (Swahili), Department of African Languages & Literature

  • Xin Zou (Chinese), Department of East Asian Languages & Literature
