Wimba Voice Tools

UW-Madison College of Letters and Science Learning Support Services and the Language Institute, with support from the UW System Collaborative Language Program and funding from the College of Letters and Science Office of Outreach Education, have purchased a one-year trial subscription to Horizon Wimba Voice Tools for the 2006-07 academic year.

The voice tools enable students and instructors to record and send voice over the Internet. The subscription for next year includes access to online tools to create:

  • voice discussion boards: post and listen to voice messages in an online discussion board
  • voice chatrooms: talk online in real time
  • voice email accounts: record, send and listen to voice email messages

The subscription to the voice tools is available to UW-Madison L&S language instructors at no cost. Check out this link for more information on the Wimba Voice Tools or to request a free account to use the tools in your language courses.

Or, come to an informational brownbag session:

Introduction to the Wimba Voice Tools
12:00 pm, Wednesday, August 30

The 2006-07 subscription to the Wimba Voice Tools was purchased as part of the Online Language Initiative, a pilot project in the Language Institute to develop distance, online language courses. In 2006-07, the Language Institute will develop pilot online courses in Chinese and Urdu, as well as a "course shell" to facilitate the further development of online language courses.
